Vanishing Varnish

The above picture is of a varnish factory in Walldorf, a few hundred metres from where I work. It exploded at 10:30 this morning, sending flames up to 8 stories into the air for over an hour afterwards. For reference, the building to the right is 5 stories high. I counted at least 8 firetrucks, but they concentrated chiefly on preventing the blaze from spreading. Not much you can do against varnish fires with water. Two hours later the place has almost stopped smoking, but everything stinks a little. Not a good day for the air quality index.
