I've been thinking about ways to spend my $500+ Tax Rebate the last few days, and have decided to treat myself to another piece of technology (no great suprises there). This time it's not a flashy gizmo that'll I'll be mooning over for weeks on end like I normally do, but a simple, functional expansion to one of my already existing baubles.
I present: the 4 GB Memory Stick Pro Duo
Why am I writing about this? Firstly, because, at 121 €, this thing cost twice as much as phone I'll be putting it in. Sure, I got the phone cheaper with the plan, but I've still tripled the purchase value of the stuff I carry around in my pocket in one fell swoop. Secondly, I've just upgraded my phone to the equivalent of an iPod nano, at a fraction of the price. Theoretically I could have bought an 8 GB memory stick and made the comparison ridiculous, but I haven't abandoned my spendthrift nature to that extent.. yet.
The capacity upgrade represents for me the satisfaction of a desire for a decent MP3 player, without buying into the pop-phenommenon that is the iPod. As such, I hold it up as an example to all - let convergence be your watchword!
