Sometimes I get irritable. At those times, these are some of the things that annoy me:
- My place of work has both “energy” and “environment” in its title, yet those who work here seem to struggle with efforts to save either. We leave lights in the meeting room on when we’re not using it, leave computers and screens on over night, and run air conditioners with open windows. We print things – single-sided – and then fail to get them, so they’re put aside by someone else and forgotten. The combination of a new printer and technical incompetence (failure to update drivers) has us printing out a single line of gibberish on each page; apparently this makes that piece of paper unusable, so we throw it away and just send the same job to the printer, AGAIN and AGAIN, without changing ANYTHING. We’ve wasted over 600 sheets of paper just this way! This doesn’t just make me irritated: it actually gets me mad. I try and save unwanted single-sided printouts to use as scrap/doodle paper, or for my printing needs, but I can’t use 600 sheets of paper!
- Men who go into public toilets and, instead of using the – completely abandoned –urinals, pee in the toilets, standing. With the door open. What the fuck? There can’t be that many men with shy bladders; besides, no-one’s standing beside you looking at your todger at the urinals, and we can still see you from the back in the toilet. You’re louder, less hygienic, and use more water. Fuck off.
- People who implicitly use their unwillingness to teach themselves a new skill as a reason to shift work onto other people (i.e. onto me). I’m all for specialisation and delegation of labour, but when you stop learning I stop caring about you.
- Taxicabs. Just.. fuck you, taxis. Everyone else has a right to these roads, too.
Ahh... calmer now. Excellent.
N.B. The intensity of the sentiments expressed in this post may not reflect how I feel most of the time.
P.S. The "d" in the title of this post is just because it's around Christmas time and I couldn't resist the pun.
