I received a piece of junk mail today, personally addressed to me. The company who sent it told me, when I called them, that they'd bought my name and address off an organisation called Data Solutions. That company, in turn, revealed they'd sourced my details from the 2003 electoral role – apparently, after a number of years, the electoral rolls were made public!
The lady I spoke to at Data Solutions told me that has since been changed, but took me out of their database and suggested I place myself on both the Australian Communication and Media Authority's Do Not Call Register, and the Australian Direct Marketing Association's Do Not Mail Service. Both can be done online.
