There's some strange carnival going on in Germany at the moment, the story behind I've yet to discover. From what I can tell it involves dressing up in strange costumes, painting one's face, and being "jeck", whatever that is. The older folk also gather in large halls – also dressed up course – where comedians garble on in the local dialect, and everyone drinks until the jokes become funny. This is then broadcast, presumably to give those who couldn't make it an excuse to get drunk at home in a clown costume.
Those who are still sober enough to walk parade the streets making lots of noise – at least, I hope that's the reason I can hear a dance version of The Godfather theme on infinite repeat coming from the Hauptbahnhof 2.5km away. If the two are unconnected, then I'm worried.
If it weren't raining I'd probably go and have a look, but after my exam I just want to spend the rest of the day lying in bed with my brain in neutral. If only those darn local comedians weren't flooding the airwaves – hooray for the Africa Cup of Nations!
